Hi.

Welcome to my blog I share my thoughts on what I’m watching, reading, eating, and everything else.

Moscato??

Moscato??

Is the current state of our doomed society turning you into a middle-aged mom who shares wine gifs and tags your whole family on Facebook statuses with sparkly hearts and glitter letters that instruct you to “tag ten people you love or you will die?”

Is the “I tried to drink it away” line in Cranes in the Sky speaking to you on a spiritual level these days?

Then this post it for you.

On top of the many hats I wear outside of work, including but not limited to trying to figure out what it is about Shaun King I just don’t like or trust, I am also VIGILANT in my efforts to stop people from ordering well-done steak and consuming wines that are classified as sweet red or moscato. **aka Roscato, a term I was just made aware of today**

I am by no means a sommelier, but I do have a little experience. See credentials below:

1.       I grew up Catholic, so I’ve been drinking wine since I was 7

2.       I’m an auntie

I get it. We generally enjoy sweet stuff.

Discover & share this House Party GIF with everyone you know. GIPHY is how you search, share, discover, and create GIFs.

But there are so many other flavors to experience outside of sweet! If you want to come into 2019 and join other adults in drinking wines that don’t taste like sparkling grape juice, here is a pretty basic list of reasonably priced wines (all under $25) that might tickle your fancy.

Whites

Kendall Jackson Chardonnay

Two words: mom wine. If for some reason you decided to have children and are stressed out at the end of the day, I hear this is the go-to. I don’t have kids, and I’ll be honest and say I’m not particularly a fan of white wine, but I do follow the rules and drink white with seafood and poultry. This $17 bottle does the trick, and is a good choice if you have friends over for a meal that pairs well with chardonnay.

Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling

If you are stuck on moscato, and absolutely have the palate of a six year old, Riesling is a nice baby step into adulthood. This dry Riesling is a nice compromise because it’s not bitter, but still not so sweet that you sound ridiculous ordering it at a restaurant.

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio

This is dry, so be prepared. Maybe you’ve recently had a lot of sweets and need something to cleanse your palate? OR maybe you’re on a date and you don’t want red wine teeth, and something that’s too sweet will make you bloated? This is $17 bottle is where is the answer.

Reds

19 Crimes Red Blend

Absolute favorite. This bottle is about $13, tastes great, and they even have an app where you take a picture of the bottle and through some virtual reality wizardry, the criminal begins to tell you his story. I also went to a Rockets game once and they were selling these bottles for $40 a pop. Highway robbery! I prefer to go to Specs, spend $10 and enjoy at home while binge watching Family Matters or reading a book.

JK Pinot Noir

Deemed my “meal-prep” wine because I buy it every time I go grocery shopping for meal prep day. Don’t let the screw top and low price fool you. I don’t know what year it is, because who cares? You can find this at your local HEB for around $8, and you’ll always find the “HEB top rated, primo pick” sticker on the tag as well.

Fog Bank Pinot Noir

I have two pinot noirs here. This one isn’t as cheap as my meal prep wine, but at $11, it’s not much of a stretch either. When the Specs near my house was out of 19 Crimes, an employee recommended this and it does not disappoint.

Franciscan Cabernet

Dinner wine for sure. If someone invites you over to a party or dinner, please don’t show up empty handed! This $20 wine is a great contribution and thank you to the host. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t enjoyed it, and you can find it almost anywhere.
