Hi.

Welcome to my blog I share my thoughts on what I’m watching, reading, eating, and everything else.

My First Time

My First Time

Ok, the title was clickbait.

This post is about my first time…making mac and cheese for Thanksgiving.

Last week my mom told us she would be working on Thanksgiving and my sister and I would be in charge of her usual contributions.

Two things happened on Thanksgiving:

  1.   I made macaroni and cheese

  2. I started a YouTube channel

First of all, let me say that I was very excited to finally flex my adulting skills and prove to my family that I could make something they would enjoy. For some reason, I have a reputation of only eating healthy or vegan food, and know absolutely nothing about being in the kitchen. Neither of which is true.

As a modern-day woman of many talents, including but not limited to eating mostly healthy foods and executing top-notch twist outs, I also pride myself on naturally being able to do just about anything I put my mind to. I just don’t eat soul food very often outside of the major holidays, and my mom was never a big cook.

Let me give you some background

Growing up there were five of us in the house, and my dad used to be a very large man, so my mom essentially had to cook for like 8 people on any given night. That meant a lot of quick, cheap, not necessarily nutritious or fresh food. Some of her go-to’s included tuna casserole, McCormick tacos, and every Black mama’s signature dish – spaghetti.

That didn’t really set me up for success in the kitchen, but as an adult who can read and follow instructions, I’ve been able to get by with a little help from my friends.

Alexa, play “FRIENDS” by The Carters.

Upon receiving the news that I’d be in charge of the mac and cheese, I reached out to my cooking ass friend who sent me a recipe with 4 different cheeses, Worcestershire sauce, and whatever I’m supposed to do with nutmeg. Super fancy. I’ve had this mac and cheese before, so it was sure to be a crowd-pleaser, but in the back of my head all I could think about was the time I was trying to impress my grandmother (Pretty) with a new craft beer I was introduced to and she sent me back in the house to grab her a Bud Light instead.

I didn’t want to be sent back to the house for Thanksgiving, so I stuck to the basics.

I went to the grocery store Tuesday evening, and grabbed all the ingredients I needed. The next morning, I’d head over to my mom’s house to get started.

Check out my first ever YouTube post to see how everything went.

This year I was tasked with making mac and cheese, and it turned out to be a lot more work than I expected. Blog: Itsbianca.com
